Appeal launched after Whiteley carriageway assault

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an ‘urgent’ appeal for witnesses and information to help their ongoing investigation following a serious assault incident that took place in Whiteley late last month; which saw a female driver sustain many bruises after being attacked by an unidentified man when ‘stationery’ for traffic lights.

The incident reportedly occurred between 7:05pm and 7:10pm on March 20 (Thursday) as the victim stopped upon the Junction 9 slip road (off the eastbound carriageway of the M27). She was grabbed by her clothing, punched in the face and saw her glasses removed; where she was left with bruises and follows an earlier road-related incident via the M27.

Officers are hoping to identify the man involved and he has been described as being white with short brown / grey hair; alongside being aged in his fifties or sixties and was driving a small white Citroen Van. They are keen to talk to anyone who may know the male or could have seen the incident, whilst any dashcam videos taken in the area would be useful.

Investigators are urging anybody with potential information to contact the police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44250123135. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.

Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
