Appeal launched following assault on teenage girls

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an “urgent” appeal for witnesses and information to help their continuing investigations following a suspicious incident in Fareham Town Centre early on Sunday evening (July 14); which saw two teenage girls allegedly approached by a man and further assaulted before he was challenged.

The girls, aged sixteen and seventeen respectively, were both at Fareham Bus Station when the male walked up to this pair from approximately 8:15pm to 8:30pm. He engaged them in conversation before putting a hand around the back of one girl’s head and forcefully kissing her; the girl pulling away / shouting as the man did the same thing to the other girl.

A member of the public then challenged the man and ensured both girls moved to the nearby pub for their safety, whilst the incident was reported to officers shortly afterwards. This male is described as being aged from thirty to 35 years old with a medium build and white skin; whilst he further had a cropped or shaved hair style according to the press release.

Detectives are particularly keen to speak with any member of public who challenged this man’s behaviour, or may have heard or witnessed anything that could assist the investigation. This could include those who saw this man / girls either before or after the incident; which took place as hundreds of residents were watching the Euro 2024 Final in local pubs.

Investigators are asking for anybody with information or footage to contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44240298764. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.
