A MAN has been arrested for alleged drug offences following a three-vehicle crash in Fareham on Thursday evening, which left one car overturned on its roof and caused traffic chaos for many commuters across the town.
Police officers were called to the aftermath on the A27 at approximately 4.07pm last night, with this incident taking place on the Avenue near Fareham Railway Station. The westbound carriageway was quickly closed and traffic diverted back onto Western Way, affecting buses into Gosport and other services across Fareham.
AA Traffic gave regular updates on the impact of the closure, with a minimum 15-minute delay on the A32 Gosport Road northbound between Eastbourne Avenue and A27 Eastern Way, alongside a smaller hold-up of nine minutes on Peel Common Roundabout northbound between B3385 Broom Way and A32 Gosport Road.
It further reported that the average vehicle speed was less than 10mph with many residents reporting it took around an hour longer to return home.
After a positive ‘swipe’ at the scene the male, believed to be aged 17, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured and the road was reopened at approximately 6.20pm once all vehicles were removed.
Hampshire Constabulary said: “We were called out at 4.07pm yesterday afternoon (September 16) to reports of a three-vehicle collision outside Fareham train station”
“A Vauxhall, a Honda and a Fiat were involved in a collision, resulting in the Vauxhall leaving the road under a bridge and ending up on its roof. Three people received minor injuries as a result.
“A 17-year-old man from Fareham was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He was later released under investigation.”
Last night’s crash comes after an early morning incident in Portchester on Thursday morning, which saw a cyclist left with serious leg injuries following a two-vehicle collision near the Delme Roundabout. A detailed report on this crash can be read on the Portsmouth News, with a police update on this crash expected in due course.
