Businesses sponsor Fareham nutcracker event

By Connor Steel

FAREHAM BUSINESSES have thrown their support behind the upcoming Christmas Lights Switch-on event in the town centre later this month, with council organisers thanking three individual sponsors as they look to ensure their Nutcracker themed occasion is a brilliant spectacle to remember for local residents and beyond.

As previously reported this free event is set to run through the day of November 19 (Saturday) with festivities taking place between 10am and 7pm, with the light switch-on and final show scheduled to start from 5.30pm. Other highlights cover face painting, fun fair rides, festive gift stalls, musical talent, food / drink and activities.

National estate agents The Agency UK, who have local links, are the first official sponsors of the event in just sixteen days time; helping make it possible to fund Street Entertainers to delight the hopefully massive crowd throughout the day. Regular performances will be taking place on the large stage and alongside West Street.

Meanwhile the Fareham-based M Coghlan funeral directors have sponsored an impressive Christmas tree to be located outside the doors of Westbury Manor Museum (opposite the old Argos site). As seen in past years this area has often been popular due to its historic nature and can provide all visitors with the festive feeling.

Sponsorship from Fareham Shopping Centre has helped to organise a specially themed trail aimed at young children starting on November 19 and continuing until the big day. This supports the town’s ‘Live Love Local’ initiative encouraging people to shop local and help Fareham’s variety of unique and independent business.

Executive for Leisure & Community, Cllr Sue Walker, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Agency UK, as well as M Coghlan and Fareham Shopping Centre for their sponsorship this year. The (kind) sponsorships allow us to create this event which is truly not to be missed. Our Nutcracker Christmas will be no exception thanks to these kind sponsors and we do expect to attract thousands of (Fareham) residents.”

Mark Bruce, Founder of The Agency UK, will be in attendance and he also added his own thoughts: “We are delighted to be providing the street entertainment at this year’s Christmas Lights event and we cannot wait to see how they will be delighting the crowds throughout the day. Bringing the community together, particularly at such a special time of year is so important. As local estate agents we truly see every day what a fantastic location Fareham is and events like this, which are free to the public, are the cherry of the Christmas cake!”
