Cash for Kids launch new sports challenge

By Connor Steel

CASH FOR KIDS have launched an unique fundraising competition aimed at helping grassroots community sports group starting in the autumn, with organisers at Wave 105 hoping to build upon popularity amongst youngsters following a successful summer of sport. This includes ongoing success with the Hundred cricket competition, recent achievements at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the Lionesses’ inspiring run to European Championship victory; alongside any men’s football success in the Qatar World Cup 2022.

The challenge is aimed at supporting young children who find it difficult to get into sport at grassroots level with initial entries judged on how their groups can make a difference within their local communities. Previous examples have included a focus on disadvantages and disability, with Gosport and Fareham groups invited to enter their ideas over the next three weeks. Entries opened on Monday morning (August 8) and must be submitted by midnight on September 12, with the only paperwork being a simple form available via this link.

Selected groups will have from September 16 to October 17 in order to collect as much money as possible; using social media platforms alongside face-to-face activities with the public. Cash for Kids will further be offering their support for everybody participating during the five weeks of competition including a wealth of fundraising experience and a full portfolio of materials to help them; which will allow useful skills to be gained for future progression and fundraising in the community once the main competition has been concluded.

All groups will be able to keep 100% of any fundraising generated over the five week period with an extra £10,000 in additional money to win separately. The top three fundraising groups are set to receive individual prize figures of £5,000, £2,500 and £1,500 depending on position, whilst special awards of £500 each for ‘the best use of social media’ and ‘most creative fundraising idea!’ as decided at conclusion by Wave 105.

Previous campaigns have seen over £50,000 raised for the charity as part of Cash for Kids Day, which saw hundreds of people commit to complete 5k per day for a certain time period, whilst Gosport and Fareham were included in a pre-Christmas challenge in 2021 that saw toy / gift donations for those in need. Overall nearly 1,500 children have benefited from these challenges to date, a welcome support in very difficult times.
