Local Covid-19 cases continue to spiral upwards

THE number of Covid-19 cases across the region continues to rise dramtically, with infections in Gosport well above the UK average.

They are revealed on the BBC website’s Local News page today, Thursday, October 14, and show the figures per 100,000 people in the seven days up to and including Saturday, October 9, compared with the week before, shown in brackets.

The breakdown of the figures by local authority area is:

  • Southampton – 458 (up from 410)
  • Portsmouth – 414 (up from 362)
  • Rushmoor – 318 (down from 341)
  • Gosport – 575 (up from 413)
  • Havant – 397 (up from 353)
  • Winchester – 577 (up from 341)
  • Fareham – 364 (up from 268)
  • New Forest – 348 (up from 306)
  • Basingstoke and Deane – 457 (up from 358)
  • East Hampshire – 317 (up from 311)
  • Eastleigh – 553 (up from 485)
  • Test Valley – 404 (down from 417)
  • Hart – 691 (up from 598)
  • Isle of Wight – 562 (up from 510)

For comparison, the figure for England is 375 up from 333. Figures were updated on Wednesday, October 13, from the government’s coronavirus dashboard.
