Globe writer presents Lavinia Hammond Trophy

UP FOR THE CUP: Rowner-based author and Globe features writer Leslie Mitchell, left, presenting Mandy Shearing with the Lavinia Hammond Trophy for her winning entry

SOLENT Writers Circle held their first face-to-face meeting this year at their new venue Lee Hub (formerly Lee on the Solent Library) on Tuesday, June 22, with Mrs Barbara Grosvenor in the chair.

The occasion was also marked by the presentation of the Lavinia Hammond Trophy, an annual competition open to members competing by entering a short story of no more than1,000 words.    The theme this year was ‘All The Time In The World’.

Globe contributor Mrs Leslie Mitchell was this year’s adjudicator and after commenting on the extremely high standard of the entries the winner was announced as Mrs Mandy Shearing for her entry ‘Doing Time’.

Thanks to the author giving her permission, we are pleased to share this rivetting tale with readers of the Globe. Find it here:
Solent Writers Circle will be happy to welcome old and new members at their next meeting on Tuesday, July 20, at 7pm at Lee Hub.
