Gosport man jailed for drugs and firearm offences
HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced that a thirty-year old male has been formally sentenced to forty-eight months imprisonment after pleading guilty to three drugs and firearms related offences; which follows the legal process beginning back on June 13 after his Skoda Rapid vehicle was stopped by the police travelling on the A34 (Winchester).
The driver was then identified by officers as being Aiden Hopkins and his vehicle was searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act; the search being conducted just after 9:30pm on the above date. It was reported that quantities of suspected Class A drugs were found in the sunglasses holder of the car alongside a space behind his car’s handbrake.
Further searches of his home address at Howe Road, Gosport uncovered more quantities of Class A drugs, a variety of paraphernalia and a 12 gauge shotgun; which was dismantled and then kept in the wardrobe. Hopkins’ phone was also seized by investigators and detailed analysis of the messages to others also indicated he was involved in drugs supply.
Hopkins was subsequently ‘charged’ with being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to supply, and possession of a firearm without a certificate. He entered guilty pleas to these offences in an earlier hearing and was jailed for the total of 48 months when he appeared in front of Southampton Crown Court recently (August 27).
