THE CONTINUING extension work for Holbrook’s Eclipse bus lane will result in overnight closures of a key Gosport road to close starting from early June and lasting for at least one week, according to an announcement from contractors and Hampshire County Council.
From Thursday, June 3, for a period of eight nights, Rowner Road will need to close to allow contractors Dyer and Butler to undertake adjustments at Rowner Road Bridge, which overlooks the entrance to Huhtamaki and the cycle lane. Working hours will be 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday, meaning the alterations may not be completed until June 11 at the earliest.
During these times, Rowner Road will be closed between Grange Road roundabout and the access to the Brune Medical Centre. Rowner Road will be closed each night during the hours stated and outside of these times will be reopened to two-way traffic. There will be no works on Saturday or Sunday night. A signed diversion will be in place via Military Road, Privett Road and Grange Road, whilst a map can be seen above of plans and potential issues.
Access will however be maintained for pedestrians, and to residents and businesses at all times. The works are required to lay the new carriageway surfacing, and to install the carriageway kerbing and traffic signal cabling. A road closure is necessary as the works require access to the full width of the carriageway and are being undertaken at night to minimise delays to traffic on this busy arterial route.
The announcement stated that every effort will be made to limit the duration of the closure and all parties would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any disturbance caused. However it also confirmed that above timescales given were dependent on weather conditions and associated issues, with further notifications given should there be any significant change to the scheduled dates.
