A MAN was arrested at Gosport Marina, off Mumby Road, on Monday – August 23 – on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
A Globe reader who witnessed the incident – but wishes to remain anonymous – said: “At about two o’clock, just inside the marina car park, the police were questioning four young people – a woman and three men. All four were searched and so was a red car that was parked near the police car.
“After about three-quarters of an hour, all four of the young people got into the red car and drove out of the car park.”
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the incident but stated the original call had been about a boat being taken – though when the police arrived, it was found moored in the marina.
Subsequently, the police arrested a 19-year-old man from Littlehampton at the scene on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent. He was later released but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
