POLICE have confirmed that they have charged a man in connection with their investigations into a Fareham rape two weeks ago as they arrested a suspect on Thursday night; coming just days after releasing CCTV videos and still images to the public through media releases.
As previously reported a twenty-two year old woman was raped between 1:20am and 2:05am on March 19 (Saturday) after being followed, with the incident occurring on the footbridge running over Western Way close to Fareham train station and the fire station on the roundabout.
Enquires led to an arrest of a man, who was not known to the victim, on Thursday afternoon. He has since been named as thirty nine year old John Sommerville Taylor Horne of Broadacre Place in Fareham,
He was charged with rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm to be remanded in custody to appear at a hearing to be held at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday 2 April).
Officers have said they appreciate that this case has been concerning to the local community, also thanking the public and local businesses for the patience and support they have shown to this urgent investigation.
