Marked reduction in number of Covid-19 cases

AFTER weeks of steady increases, the latest cases of Covid-19 in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight are showing a marked decline.

The BBC website’s Local News page has revealed the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the seven days up to and including Friday, September 10, compared with the week before, shown in brackets.

The breakdown of the figures by local authority area is:

  • Southampton – 284 (down from 290)
  • Portsmouth – 328 (down from 392)
  • Rushmoor – 252 (down from 306)
  • Gosport – 292 (down from 451)
  • Havant – 305 (down from 345)
  • Winchester – 241 (down from 313)
  • Fareham – 285 (down from 379)
  • New Forest – 230 (down from 267)
  • Basingstoke and Deane – 280 (down from 285)
  • East Hampshire – 250 (down from 313)
  • Eastleigh – 297 (down from 351)
  • Test Valley – 278 (down from 342)
  • Hart – 255 (down from 318)
  • Isle of Wight – 299 (down from 333)

For comparison, the figure for England is 307 (down from 326).
