A WELL-KNOWN UK retailer is pinning its faith in the post-pandemic revival of the high street with the opening of a new Gosport shop in three weeks.
Beauty, health and home products specialist Savers has chosen to take over the former Bon Marché shop in Gosport High Street. The refurbishment of the store is currently under way.
Savers’ Sales Operations Director Steve Butterworth said the company was delighted, “to support the Gosport community at this time.
“The new store will open on the 18th June and will create nine new jobs.”
Gosport has been a Savers’ target area for several years. In February 2019, the company told The Globe that it planned to open in Gosport by the end of that year.
Founded in Durham in 1988, Savers now has more than 500 shops nationwide, including those in Fareham Shopping Precinct and in Portsmouth.
Since 2017, the high street and online retailer has been in the top 25 companies listed by The Sunday Times in its annual survey of ‘Best Big Companies To Work For’.
It is part of the multi-national A S Watson Group – claimed to be the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer with more than 16,000 stores in 27 markets – which has a variety of bands including Superdrug.
The Watson Group is itself a member of Cayman Islands-registered and Hong Kong-based conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings.
