Police appeal after Gosport incidents

HAMPSHIRE POLICE are investigating incidents in which small incendiary devices have been ignited in Gosport over recent weeks.

Reports say two separate incidents have occurred in the Montagu Close area in Elson / Hardway this year, on August 29 and most recently last Hallowe’en weekend on October 31.

Officers are currently investigating whether the two incidents are linked, speaking to local people in neighbouring roads and reviewing all available CCTV evidence at this early stage.

Police are continuing to follow up enquiries, and as part of this we are appealing to the public to report any information to us about these incidents or who may be involved.

Sgt Graeme Hepper, from Gosport East Neighbourhoods Policing Team, said: “We are taking these incidents very seriously, and are working with the local community to identify the person or people responsible.

“The incidents have involved bottles and pots being placed on the ground, with a substance inside that is ignited and burns for a short period of time.

“Fortunately no-one has been hurt on either of these occasions, but there can be serious consequences to setting fires in this manner.

“We will be liaising with local schools and officers are working with local residents in the area.

“We encourage anyone who witnesses this type of behaviour in the area to dial 999 immediately. If you have any information about the incidents that have already taken place, please call 101 or submit information to us via our website.”

Anyone with information, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 44210439429, or submit information to us here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/
