Police charge man for attempted car thefts

HAMPSHIRE POLICE have announced they have charged a man following reports of two attempted car robberies in the Park Gate area of Fareham, which occurred earlier this week.

Officers were called at 1.28pm on Wednesday 10 November with reports of a man trying to steal a car on Middle Road near Sainsbury’s Local, and allegedly assaulting the driver in the process of this incident.

Eight minutes later, at 1.36pm, police received another report alleging that a man was attempting to steal a car on Botley Road. Similarly, it was reported that the driver was assaulted during this second incident.

Officers attended and arrested a man near to the scene, who has since been named as thirty-one year old Paulius Minkevicius, of no fixed abode.

He was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted robbery, and was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.  No updates have been released about the result of this hearing planned for yesterday (November 12).
