Sultan hosts large festive themed charity fundraiser
HMS SULTAN are celebrating another huge fundraising success as staff recently held a festive themed bake sale at the Gosport based training establishment; which saw their Unit Personnel Office (UPO) turned into a unique Santa’s Grotto to generate monies for British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The bake was organised by Mitie Technical Services staff and they ensured that the occasion featured all of the key ingredients within the UPO; including tables of delicious treats and enough lights / sparkle to compete with Blackpool Tower. There was also a range of prizes to be won from a raffle such as afternoon teas and days out, which prompted many to dig deep into their pockets.
Everybody was invited to buy raffle tickets and participate throughout the event; a large majority taking a small breather from daily tasks to move into the festive period. Overall the bake sale raised a whopping £1669.39 for the two charities above; which continues successes from past initiatives including Children in Need and Red Nose Day earlier this year.
UPO Manager Sharan Griffiths who helped organise the cake sale said: “We’ve had lots of fun decorating the UPO and baking. Everyone across the establishment has also been brilliant in showing their support through donating gifts and prizes.”
“All of us will know someone who has been affected by heart disease or cancer and the British Heart Foundation and MacMillan are both doing excellent work in supporting those effected. Their support is invaluable, especially around Christmas time, when we all get together with friends and family. Everyone’s generosity really will help make a big difference.”
