Witnesses sought after police officer ‘impersonation’
HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced that they have arrested a male for “impersonating a police officer” in Gosport Town Centre during the early hours of Thursday morning (July 11) and have further launched a public witness appeal regarding the incident; which included reports of multiple victims being involved for a range of varying offences.
It was reported that the male approached members of the public along the High Street and near to the ferry terminal at around 3:30am; where he purported to be a police constable and started issuing demands. He is also reported to have grabbed a woman by the throat and further inappropriately touched a man on the buttock according to a police release.
Detectives have started their early enquiries that have resulted in a nineteen year old male being arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police constable, along with common assault and sexual assault. But they are asking the ‘public’ for their assistance and want to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or those who were approached by the male.
Investigators are asking for anybody with information or footage to contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44240292784. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.
