Local residents invited to community celebration day

By Holly Henson

GOSPORT RESIDENTS have been invited to a special event in the town centre this Saturday (April 11); which will aim to celebrate the work of charities and groups in the Borough as well as the emergency services keeping the community safe.

Gosport Community Day will take over Gosport High Street, Lawrence Square and the Town Hall reception from 11am to 2pm; featuring a variety of stalls, demonstrations and fun activities for all ages. The free event, run by Community First, Safer Gosport and Gosport Borough Council, offers people a unique opportunity to connect with local charities, groups and clubs to find out about volunteering opportunities in the area and learn about what’s happening locally.

Organisations already signed up to take part include Cash for Kids South Coast, West Sussex and Salisbury, Veterans Outreach Support, The Diving Museum, Solent Mind, Pompey Pals Project, Love Outdoors CIC, RNLI Gosport, Cats Protection Gosport Branch, Gosport Leisure Centre and many more.

Emergency services will be on hand to give demonstrations, vehicle tours and advice on keeping Gosport safe, including Gosport Police, Hampshire Fire, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Hampshire Search and Rescue.

There will be free family activities including a fun Easter hunt, face painting with Fantazzy, and an opportunity to have a bicycle security marked by police, to prevent theft.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive of Community First, said: “Gosport Community Day is a fantastic opportunity for people to learn about the incredible work being done in the community, that is often not shouted about.

“For anyone interested in learning about how to get involved in volunteering and the opportunities available in the area, it’s worth attending.”

Readers are able to simply attend on the day with no tickets or booking required; whilst more information can be found at cfirst.org.uk and safergosport.co.uk.
