Witness appeal after beach OAP crash

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses and information as they continue to investigate a road traffic collision that occurred on a busy road in Gosport last weekend, which has left a elderly gentlemen with severe life threatening injuries in hospital.

The incident happened just after 2pm on June 26 (Sunday) on Marine Parade Road West, a key route in the Lee-on-the-Solent area. Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene with an 80 year old man suffering severe injuries. He remains in hospital and receiving treatment.

These injuries were due to being hit by a vehicle, with the road closed for a number of hours whilst treatment was administered and early investigations launched to the exact cause of the collision.

Officers have confirmed they have arrested a forty-eight year old man as part of their enquires, but has been released under investigation. This comes after speaking to many witnesses but detectives remain keen to hear from anyone who saw a grey Ford Transit van in the lead up to the incident.

Detective Constable Cate Paling said in a short statement released on Tuesday (June 28): “We are really grateful to everyone who has contacted us so far as part of our investigation. “One thing we remain keen to do is piece together the vans journey in the build up to the incident.”

“If you saw a grey 2018-plate Transit van in the lead up to 2pm, then please get in touch. We particularly want to hear from anyone with CCTV footage outside their home or business, or dash cam footage.”
