Creeksiders’ clash off due to weather

FAREHAM TOWN will have to wait another week to put aside their recent five-nil defeat to AFC Stoneham after their home clash versus Hamble Club suffered a second late postponement of the season on Saturday afternoon, coming after heavy lunchtime rain and strong wind gusts battered the Hampshire region.
Following a two week hiatus due to other teams playing catch-up fixtures the Creeksiders were scheduled to play the Monks at Cams Alders with a 3pm kick-off, which was rearranged from November 30 due to a floodlight problem prior to the midweek encounter. The away side were also hoping to avenge a two-nil Fareham victory back in September with goals from Kai Sterne and Simon Woods.
It was hoped this morning that the game had beaten Storm Eunice’s wrath, only for a lengthy downpour to render the surface unplayable just before 1pm. It joins a growing number of sporting events across the area to be cancelled due to the weather this weekend including five other Wessex League encounters, particularly after Friday’s red warning issued by the Met Office.
According to information on Full Time FA this fixture has been rescheduled for March 8 with a 7:45pm kick-off at Cams, although neither club has confirmed this at the time of writing. In the meantime Fareham will be travelling to Moneyfields next weekend in a Portsmouth derby before hosting Cowes Sports on March 1. Another game away at Shaftesbury is also set to be played at Cockrams in the first week of next month.
In other news the club were victims of vandalism at Cams Alders earlier this week, with the entrance to the ground broken into and photos of smashed media box windows posted onto social media platforms. It is believed that CCTV has been sent to police and they are currently investigating with unlinked incidents at Bournemouth Poppies FC and Hythe & Dibden over recent weeks.
