Appeal launched after Morrisons collision in Gosport

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses and information to support their ongoing investigations following a major road traffic collision that occurred in the car park of Morrisons (Gosport) earlier today (August 21); which caused the death of an elderly woman and minor injuries to another person.

Emergency Services were called to the scene on Walpole Road at 12:06pm to the incident, where it was reported that a grey Kia Soul was driven into the car park before colliding with two pedestrians and hitting many parked and moving vehicles. Sadly a woman in her eighties sadly passed away at the scene despite efforts of the public and medical staff.

The car park has not yet reopened at the time of writing (6pm on Friday evening) due to the wide scale of debris and a cordon has been erected at the scene, whilst Morrisons is only open via foot currently. Police are continuing their early investigations and want to speak to any witnesses who were in the area, as well as those who have dash-cam footage.

Investigators are urging anybody with potential information to contact the police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44260407128. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.

Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
