Bin collection days to change across Gosport
By Connor Steel
GOSPORT RESIDENTS have been advised about an upcoming bin collection change from early next month with the council aiming to ensure service efficiency despite increased demand across the entire borough; the contractor soon to add another refuse collection round to their schedules in a move that will affect a majority.
It comes as the borough has experienced an increased number of households and ‘waste’ being produced in recent months; forcing the decision to add an extra collection round. This has sadly signalled a small number of missed weekly collections and slight delays for garden waste rounds across most communities in Gosport.
Urbaser Ltd, the council contractor, have announced that they will be starting this extra collection round from the week commencing June 5 (Monday); with most local residents due to have new days for their weekly bin collection as a result. This is to ensure that staff can cope with the additional workloads in contractual hours.
Households are urged to look out for large yellow hangers which will outline full details of their new collection day, with most affected by just 24 hours either way. The hangers should be attached to all bins when emptied next; featuring the phone number for Streetscene (below) if anyone wants to confirm / query this information.
The council is due to launch a media campaign to help raise awareness of this change, which they hope will improve these essential services for the longer term. Their online collection day search link has further been updated over recent days; allowing residents to check their upcoming dates by simply typing their postcodes.
There are currently no plans to tweak any recycling and black bin calendars currently online; whilst residents are assured that support will be available if a collection does get missed for whatever reason. Related refuse services such as bulky household goods and emptying of glass bottle banks currently all remain unchanged.
Residents can explore further information by contacting Streetscene on 0800 198 598, using social media or visiting their page on the Gosport Borough Council website; which includes a range of advice and other links.
