Borough announce contract extension for club legend
By Connor Steel
GOSPORT BOROUGH FC have announced that they have signed a fresh contract extension with “club legend” Dan Wooden until the end of the upcoming 2026-27 Southern League Premier campaign; the striker providing a boost for the team as they hope to build on a mid-table finish last year and ending rumours about his future at the AEI Stadium.
The announcement finally came at 7pm on Monday evening (June 8) through social media with the thirty-six year old striker committing his future to the club; which he first joined back in 2009 from Moneyfields. He had a spell with AFC Portchester and Moneyfields from 2016 to 2020, before he returned back to Borough under Shaun Gale’s leadership.
Dan Wooden made himself a fan legend by helping in two successive promotions from this Southern League Division One South & West to the Conference South, which were achieved via the playoffs. The successes kept on coming as well as he featured in the 2014 FA Trophy final at Wembley and the FA Cup First Round tie against Colchester United.
He has made over 550 appearances and netted nearly two hundred goals for Gosport; some of his most remembered being an overhead kick against Havant & Waterlooville and long ranger against St Neots. His most recent goals came against Evesham United and Tiverton Town back in late April, which helped his team to two successive away victories.
The striker will add experience to Borough for the new season and joins the list of players to agree new deals with the club; such as Adam Tomasso, Harvey Solley and Rory Williams. The team have further signed up Harvey Lee, Wayne Robinson and Jude Mason in recent weeks to strengthen key areas under a new management team with Simon Lane.
Readers are encouraged to keep updated with any announcements via this club’s website and social media channels, which will cover the fixtures for their coming season and all other news when they are ready to be shared in the future.
