Charities receive Collingwood Open Day donations

By Marnie Arnott

REPRESENTATIVES from local and naval charities attended a recent event at HMS Collingwood to receive financial donations that were collected at the Fareham training establishment’s annual Open Day occasion, which was held back on June 28 this year and saw thousands of people attend for a day of family friendly activities.

The special occasion was hosted by Commanding Officer, Captain Tim Davey, and was attended by Mayor of Fareham Councillor Louise Clubley who accepted donations on behalf of her three nominated charities; SERV Wessex – The Blood Runners, Friends of Fareham Community Hospital, and Y Services for Young People.

Other charities who received donations included Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), Sophie’s Legacy, Warsash Sea Cadets, HMS Collingwood Volunteer Cadet Corps, and Mission Motorsport. All of these do excellent work in the communities and have become vital for those who require support from their services.

Captain Davey said: “Open Day is the biggest event we run each year. It gives us the opportunity to welcome the public through our gates, together with many local and naval charities. It also allows us to showcase some of the world class training we deliver here, and for the public to meet our service personnel. One of the best parts of Open Day is when we are able to present the money raised to worthy causes, and we are delighted to welcome you here today.”

This year’s Open Day attracted more than 7,000 visitors who enjoyed attractions including the RNRMC Field Gun Competition, a free funfair, and tours of warship simulators. Captain Davey also acknowledged the vital role of sponsors and the dedicated Open Day committee, who have already begun planning for next year’s event that has been scheduled for July 4, 2026.
