Collingwood offers college insight on Naval training
By Maddie Purdy
HMS COLLINGWOOD welcomed students from Fareham College recently to learn more about the Royal Navy and to get a detailed insight into what Naval training looks like them; which was well received by everybody in attendance at the Fareham based training establishment.
The event was also used as an opportunity to welcome the students on site as they will be participating in work experience and also the scheduled Open Day in early July. It provided a fantastic chance for them to familiarise themselves with the facilities and how it operates, whilst the students were escorted around by personnel who gave comprehensive briefs on everything they were shown.
One of the students, Emma, 17, has a considerable naval background with both her parents being ex-military and her brother just recently joining up. She stated: “It was so amazing to see what my family have done and are doing. Getting to see it first-hand was particularly interesting”.
Edward,18, who celebrated his birthday on the day of the visit, said it was “such an eye-opening day and a great opportunity to step-out of college to experience something so different”. With an ex-marine grandfather, Edward found it fascinating to see the sorts of things his grandfather would’ve been doing and he concluded by saying: “it’s inspired me to keep my options open for my career and potentially one in the Navy.”
