Collingwood sailors offer services at nursing home

By Maddie Purdy

MEMBERS from the Victory Squadron recently returned back to Tudor Lodge Nursing Home to help enhance and refresh elements of their site; which allowed them to continue a rewarding affiliation between HMS Collingwood and the Fareham based care facility.

Sailors were tasked with staining and protecting the decking in one of the home’s many garden areas used by local residents. With such an expansive site, the staff at Tudor Lodge really appreciated the work Victory Squadron could do as they continue to ensure certain areas are kept protected against potentially harsh winter conditions.

The visit was also an opportunity to strengthen the personal connections that have developed through HMS Collingwood’s affiliation with Tudor Lodge. During their time at the home, the sailors were delighted to spend time with veteran Douglas Ward, who previously served at HMS Collingwood. Having enjoyed conversations with Victory Squadron during a visit including His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Collingwood, Doug was eager to meet with the sailors again and share more of his experiences.

These engagements allow for the wonderful connections to be built and maintained, whilst sailors are already planning to come back and help with additional tasks around the nursing home in the coming weeks / months.
