Council confirms return of business networking event

By Connor Steel

FAREHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL have confirmed the return of the popular business-to-business and networking event that will take place at the town’s Leisure Centre next Thursday (February 22); this occasion set to feature the total of 40 local businesses and a comprehensive speaker programme to mark ‘2024 Portsmouth & South Coast Business Week’.

The council have partnered with Everyday Active to host this event, which will be officially opened at 9:30am by Deputy Leader Cllr Simon Martin. Their schedule of guest speakers are scheduled to start from 10am and be broken into forty-five minute sessions with the contributions including the European Space Agency’s Business Applications Ambassador.

A particular focus will be the upcoming incorporation of Martyn’s Law when passed in Parliament, which was created in the aftermath of the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist bombing. This legislation includes measures applying to all digital and physical businesses; helping customers and staff to scale their “preparation” to any attacks in an ‘uncertain period’.

Councillors are keen that Fareham businesses stay updated with the legislation and have enlisted The Protect Alliance (UK) to attend the event; the ‘not-for-profit’ organisation looking to give specialist information and advice on the subject. A dedicated Protect Zone will be set up at the exhibition with other organisations that are preparing for the ‘future laws’.

The event is ‘free’ to attend but visitors are urged to pre-register and reserve spots online in order to avoid any queues. The venue’s postcode is PO16 7JU and can be located on Park Lane with limited parking available on-site, whilst it can be assessed using public transport links such as buses (E1, E2, X4, X5) and is a walkable distance from a train station.
