Fareham care home residents enjoy Collingwood visit

By Maddie Purdy

MUSCIANS of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Collingwood joined together with the Victory Squadron on a recent visit to Tudor Lodge Care Home; which saw them deliver a memorable afternoon for the home’s residents and veterans.

The visit featured a traditional mess beating performance and this helped in providing a drum display. Following the performance, members of the Band and Victory Squadron spent time with residents over tea and cakes; which saw them creating connections and sharing in meaningful conversations.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for HMS Collingwood to further develop and maintain its strong affiliation with Tudor Lodge, who celebrated their achievement of Veteran Friendly Accreditation earlier this year. It was further a milestone supported by the dedicated efforts of Victory Squadron.

This proved such an important relationship for the veterans that live at Tudor Lodge including ninety-seven year old Douglas Ward, who served 22 years in the Royal Navy. He spent the majority of his career at HMS Collingwood, and his son explained how the affiliation with the establishment and Tudor Lodge contributed to their choice of the home.

Engagements such as these are immensely rewarding for all involved, promoting companionship, shared experiences, and mutual appreciation across generations. HMS Collingwood have stated they greatly value their ongoing relationship with Tudor Lodge and look forward to future events with them.
