Globe celebrates tenth anniversary with art exhibition
A SMALL SELECTION of invited visitors joined together at Thorngate Halls last Saturday afternoon (April 26) to honour The Gosport & Fareham Globe’s tenth anniversary; which was celebrated during a “social gathering” and a special arts exhibition featuring creative contributions from local designers along with a body of pages published by this newspaper.
Guests gathered within the Privett Suite to explore sublime work from local artists including Peter Hammond and Peter Maguire, which were accompanied by artefacts donated by our Editor-in-Chief Trigo Neo Starden. They were joined by a range of framed articles and pages throughout the Globe’s history beginning with a PDF publication in January 2015.
The attendees featured Leslie Mitchell, Kim Bristow, and Rob Thomas; who have contributed greatly to the Globe’s big successes and legacy over the last ten years. Many memories were shared of their favourite articles or headlines such as AlverRank and past events covered by the newspaper; including D-Day anniversaries and local support for Ukraine.
Constituency MP, Dame Caroline Dinenage, was also amongst the attendees and she spent her time speaking with all guests in the room; whilst also admiring much of the work on display. She was further keen to say her “congratulations” that the Globe had reached ten years and thanked the paper for the service to the local Gosport / Fareham community.
Founder Robin Young thanked everybody for celebrating and supporting the local newspaper, whilst Managing Director Connor Steel offered his own thoughts on future plans such as printed alternatives and there was then a ‘pre-recorded’ message from the Editor-in-Chief. A tasty mix of food and drink was further provided, including many Indonesian treats.
Huge gratitude goes towards the staff at Thorngate Halls who made everyone feel welcome throughout this event. The paper would like to thank everybody for their support and readers are encouraged to check for updates on future plans.
