Organisers announce 2026 Alverstoke Garden Walkabout
RESIDENTS of Alverstoke will be opening their gardens to the public as the area hosts its seventh Garden Walkabout event later this month to raise money for the Alverstoke Parish Centre Regeneration Fund; which has gained other £35,000 in contributions towards the building fund from the previous six editions.
The two day event will be formally opened by the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Kirsten Bradley, on June 27 (Saturday) before visiting some of the gardens that can then be explored by the public until 5pm on the first day. It will then reopen from 1pm to 5pm on June 28 (Sunday) with large crowds expected to attend.
There will be a good collection of gardens for everyone to explore; including new and returning gardens that have had makeovers alongside frequent flyers. There is one with views across the Solent, one with a model steam railway, and one that children will love; including fairies to find, a pirate ship to explore, and giant Lego to build.
Entry is by programme costing £10 per adult (free for accompanied children) and is the entry ticket for both days. It has a stylised map listing the gardens and their availability, as well as information about whether they are selling plants or refreshments. Tea with homemade cake will be available in the Parish Centre.
Tickets are on sale at the Alverstoke Post Office, Alverstoke Village Hardware, Gina’s in Clayhall Road, Gosport and at Solent Springs Adventure Golf on Stokes Bay Road. Tickets will be on sale from 12pm on both days (June 27 / 28) at the Parish Centre, Green Road, Alverstoke PO12 2ET, and from participating gardens
Organisers have been fortunate to have Bernard’s Estate Agents sponsor the printing and publicity for the Walkabout, which they hope will lead to similar successes as recent years. The monies raised will join over £600,000 towards the redevelopment of the Parish Centre site.
The construction of the new car park was completed in March 2025 along with the installation of fifty-six solar panels and battery storage; which has produced energy to reduce running costs and the carbon footprint.
The redevelopment continued this year in the hall with new ceiling and insulation, lighting, heating, flooring, emergency exit and patio doors. A new patio has also been added so users can enjoy the outside space along the western side of the hall; whilst trees and hedging have been planted with the garden being transformed with new planting.
