Police give update on Gosport rape investigation
HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have released an updated appeal for witnesses and information to assist their continuing investigation following a report of rape in Gosport early this month; which was received shortly after 12:45am on April 14 (Tuesday) and has increased concern across the local area since it became public last week.
It is reported that this offence occurred in an area close to Bury Road, and specialist officers are currently supporting a forty-seven year old woman. As part of this investigation, police officers have carried out extensive enquiries, including reviewing CCTV / other available footage, conducting house to house enquiries, and completing forensic examinations.
At the time of writing the investigation has not yet led to an identification or description of a suspect, but police continue to actively pursue the available lines of enquiry. They are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious on the one way system or Bury Road around the time of the report to police, or could have captured any helpful video footage.
Investigators are urging anybody with potential information to contact the police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44260172761. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.
Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
