Residents invited to “Party in the Park” event

By Connor Steel

LOCAL RESIDENTS have been urged to attend a free community weekend of entertainment in Gosport next month as organisers recently confirmed further details about “Party in the Park“; a new two day event hoping to replace the ever-popular “Gosport Waterfront Festival” following its sudden cancellation earlier this Spring.

“Party in the Park” is due to take place within the grounds of Walpole Park on July 29 (Saturday) and July 30 (Sunday); which were previously earmarked for the Waterfront Festival. This new occasion is currently being planned by Monserrat Events, who were recently in charge of organising Royal celebrations across the area.

With support from 32 Events, it has been announced that live music will be paying a big part in this occasion; but a full list of performers have not yet been released at the time of writing. However it is expected that local acts will be asked to showcase their talent; ranging from dance routines and singing artists to popular bands.

A limited number of funfair rides are further likely to be available for visitors, who can participate in a range of summer related activities throughout the two days. Local businesses, including food and drink vendors, have also been invited to hire a stall from 12pm to 6pm; costing £50 for a 3m x 3m pitch as stated on this website.

Gates will open from midday on both days with different finishing times; Saturday’s entertainment due to end at 10:30pm with Sunday scheduled to be closing at 9:30pm. Parking should be made available in most town centre car parks for a small fee, whilst all local bus and ferry services are accessible within walking distance.

It has lastly been announced that this event will act as a launch for “Summer in Gosport 2023”, a programme of community activities being organised by Gosport Borough Council and Hampshire Cultural Trust. This will include the Lee Victory Festival, which is due to take place in September with further details to be published.
