Residents invited to silent movie showing with organ

By Richard Bunce

GOSPORT RESIDENTS have been invited to participate in a night of entertainment that will feature the historic but popular organ at Thorngate Hall later this month, which follows a successful performance from Robert Stacey at the beer festival this weekend.

This latest event will take place at Thorngate Halls on March 12 (Thursday) as Michael Wooldridge accompanies the Buster Keaton silent classic of Sherlock Junior, which was first shown in 1924.  Rob Hind from the Ritz cinema at St Vincent will give an introductory talk about the movie before visitors settle down and view it the way it was meant to be seen.

The organ is ninety-two years old and is currently undergoing a major programme of refurbishment; which seems to be having a positive impact. There is still a lot more work to do, but already the instrument is sounding better and organists are noticing how much more responsive it is.

On the film night readers will see more information on display about the refurbishment work, and any contributions towards the costs will be greatly appreciated. Tickets are available on the door for a cost of £10 per person and doors open at 7pm for a start time of 7:30pm. There is free parking at the venue after 7pm for visitors and readers can see this poster for more information.
