Sailors celebrate Valentines Day with care residents
By Maddie Purdy
SAILORS from the Victory Squadron at HMS Collingwood were able to continue a proud tradition as they visited Tudor Lodge Nursing Home in Fareham this week, where they took the time to celebrate Valentines Day (February 14) with residents.
This was a wonderful occasion to spread some love as well as providing a wonderful opportunity to share kindness and companionship to the residents of the care home, who all thoroughly enjoyed the visit that is now held annually.
The residents warmly welcomed the sailors as they listened to stories, whilst the group were also able to pour drinks and assist staff in serving meals. To mark the celebration, the sailors also presented each resident with a rose and this was a gesture that was met with great appreciation.
Among those particularly delighted by the visit was John Staines; a former submariner with 20 years of service who relished the opportunity to connect with today’s sailors and recount his experiences. John Kelly, an ex–marine engineer, also greatly enjoyed the company of Victory Squadron and expressed his gratitude for receiving a rose.
Jannette Broxton, coordinator of Tudor Lodge activities, said “It brought residents out of their rooms, who don’t usually come out”. Gratitude was also expressed to attendees “who did an impeccable job! “
It was truly wonderful to see the sailors bring roses alongside so many smiles to Tudor Lodge, making the celebration truly memorable for everyone involved. Readers can see more information about the Nursing Home by clicking this link.
