Stokes Bay WI enjoys successful Michaelmas Fayre

MEMBERS OF Stokes Bay WI finally saw rewards for months of preparation as they enjoyed a successful day at the annual Michaelmas Fayre, which was held in Alverstoke Village on Saturday (September 26).

It took scores of members behind the scenes to make the stall successful with talented cooks producing a wonderful array of jams, jellies, marmalade, and chutneys. And this proved a good first stop for other stallholders who wanted to bag their favourites before setting up, with a member describing this period as “the early bird catches the marmalade”.

Members also offered homemade tea loaf slab cakes, gingerbread slices, and delicious cheese scones. Plants too were on offer and it could be argued that the stall had something for everyone!

Stokes Bay WI President Tracey Whatley said: “What an amazing day, and we were so lucky with the weather, bringing out shoppers who visited our stall– and what a variety we had on sale! We do it to support our charities which, for 2026/2027, is for Fareham based charities: ‘The Rainbow Centre’ and the ‘Let us Play Scheme’.”

She continued to state: “We enjoy helping our community and we know the charities are grateful for our support. We give big thanks to anyone who helped in any way – it was great teamwork from Stokes Bay WI for our charities, chosen annually by our members.”

Stokes Bay WI meet in the Parish Centre Alverstoke on the third Tuesday of the month, with each session running from 10am to 12pm with interesting meetings, outings and special events. Readers can see more information on membership or arranging a visit by clicking www.stokesbaywi.co.uk.
