Witnesses sought after fatal motorway collision
HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have published an urgent appeal for witnesses and information to assist their ongoing investigations following a severe traffic incident on the M27 during the early rush hour on Friday (October 16); which sadly saw the death of a motorcyclist and forced a major closure of this motorway through the day.
Emergency services were called at 6:39am to reports of this collision on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 11 (Wallington Interchange) and 12 (Hilsea). This involved a white Triumph motorcycle and despite medical efforts, the male motorcyclist in his sixties passed away on the scene. The next of kin have been notified and are being supported.
Police have thanked drivers for their patience and understanding throughout the day as traffic built up across this area including Fareham Town Centre and the surrounding roads. Although the westbound carriageway did remain open the eastbound route was closed from Junctions 9 to 12 before the M27 was later fully reopened for all traffic just after 8pm.
Detectives carried out extensive investigations at the scene to determine the “full circumstances” of the collision before reopening the road, whilst further enquires will be ongoing. As part of these, they have expressed their desire to talk to any witnesses who were in the area and may have seen something useful, as well as those who have dash-cam video.
Investigators are urging anybody with potential information to contact the police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44260508127. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.
Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
