Exhibition ‘Unhooked’ with charity art auction
ARTISTS will unveil works inspired by their own mental health stories at the Yellow Edge Gallery in Gosport from 6pm on Friday, October 8.
Visitors can meet the artists in person, and take part in a fundraising art auction donated by local and national artists from 7.30pm – 8.30pm.
The Unhooked Exhibition, curated and managed by Dale Lodge of Mernpunk Alternative Interiors, provides artists with a platform to raise awareness and understanding of issues surrounding mental health within the community.
Airing at the Yellow Edge Gallery from Saturday, October 9, to Sunday, October 17, the exhibition features works from 14 acclaimed UK artists, including Tom Fry, Laura Greenway, Clarke Reynolds, Ashleigh Spice, Adam Riches and Jazmine Saunders, and explores themes ranging from grief, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, and depression, to living with blindness, autism, and other disabilities.
In addition to giving artists a space to start conversations about mental health and art as therapy, the exhibition aims to raise funds for mental health charity Solent Mind, a UK-based service providing help for people dealing with a broad range of mental illnesses.
“We have set ourselves a target of £5,000 to raise vital funds for Solent Mind, and we already have almost £1000 donated before the actual event begins.” said curator and exhibition organiser Dale.
The exhibition welcomes all visitors to the launch night event and auction. There will be over 30 lots up for grabs, including art, jewellery and even a signed Portsmouth FC programme. The auction catalogue can be viewed on the website, and commission bids of welcome though the contact page by anyone unable to attend.
Any local companies wishing to contribute towards the fundraising goal can either do so on the night or by donating to the charity directly. Every penny raised will count in the mission to help Solent Mind improve the lives of hundreds of local people who are reaching out to them for help – and of course, the many who will continue to do so in the future.
