Collingwood personnel undertake charity challenge

By Maddie Purdy

PERSONNEL across HMS Collingwood are celebrating a fundraising success as they undertook a challenge of endurance for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC); which ran for seven days earlier this month and was a huge achievement for participants.

The challenge ran for twenty-four hours from 9am on March 13 (Friday) to 9am on March 20 (Friday) with participants working in pairs to complete six hour shifts on treadmills in the SARC. This was true dedication to teamwork, resilience and fundraising for a service charity, which is well supported by those in the Fareham-based training establishment.

In total, the event covered over 1300 miles throughout the week; the distance of HMS Collingwood to John O’Groats and then from John O’Groats all the way to the Coventry Building Society Arena. The event organisers attended every session to support and encourage those participating in such an intense challenge.

They commented: “We had 60 individuals all together over 7 days. Most did the 6 hour slots; some did shifts of 1 hour. Everyone who took part put in their maximum effort. It’s been a great effort from everyone, and we’ve had so much support. So far, we’ve raised almost £5000! Different organisations and departments have come together to achieve one aim, while providing mutual support to one another the whole time. You should all feel proud of the accomplishment!”
