Developers submit new plans for Welborne scheme

By Connor Steel

BUCKLAND DEVELOPMENT have announced that a new planning application for Welborne’s Village Centre has been fully submitted by project developers; who are aiming to add to provision for a primary school, nursery, GP surgery and pharmacy as part of the multi-million pound scheme that is likely to begin later this year on a site just north of the ‘M27’.

Plans are underway to construct 6-thousand homes near Junction Ten as previously reported for the Globe and is cited as the most “ambitious development” for the council; who are working alongside ‘Buckland Development‘ over previous years. Initial preparatory work has already started and the project is set to take thirty months when construction begins.

The latest application is based around the Village Centre and it will cost £50 million to construct; featuring several one / two bedroom flats alongside three and four bedroom houses. Developers are further looking to include a traditional pub / hotel facility, shops and a community hall; the layouts inspired by the Town Centre designs of Wickham and Alresford.

Buckland Development Managing Director, John Beresford, stated that these ongoing plans have “thoughtfully merged Hampshire’s heritage with the principles of sustainability” and that the ultimate aim was to help “create a Village Centre that becomes the perfect image of what we’d all like to call home”. Local businesses have offered their contributions to the design and planning phase, whilst favourable lease terms have been offered to allow the companies to establish themselves within the Village. This would help to boost the community relations and allow easy access for all residents, whilst creating job vacancies and an opportunity for those businesses.

Councillors are expected to debate / vote on the planning application in future meetings but is expected to be approved by a majority despite some reservations. New updates can be seen on the dedicated page on the council website here.
