Ghostly investigators explore Fort Widley tunnels
FORT WIDLEY was first built between 1860 and 1868 following a recommendation of the Royal Commission and joins a series of Palmerston Forts atop Portsdown Hall; which were designed to protect Portsmouth from attacks at the rear. The facility was disarmed in 1907 but remained in military hands as an army barracks until the 1950s and is now a popular haunt for paranormal investigators with regular tours / events being held.
A group of four females and myself visited the site recently so we could experience the historic tunnels together; the team including Lindsey (Exploring the Afterlife) with Debbie McCall and Emily Cowell (Ghost2Ghost Paranormal Investigations). There was many years of experience with two of these names running the tours for interested people.
Video footage helped to capture many things on camera including disembodied voices such as another male, alongside footsteps, banging noises, and whistles on command. The group stayed later in the tunnels later than normal to see if the 3am myth was true, however experienced the same level of activity than many previous visits whether investigated during the day or night and left the location earlier.
Upon further thoughts, it led me to think that it was a myth. A lot of experience has been gained as a paranormal investigator and logically, if ghosts do exist surely they would be around day and night and not just hanging around at 3am.
I am personally lucky to investigate this location on numerous occasions with sceptics, believers, non-believers and charity events helping veterans and animals, as well as this time around within a small group. Between us, we have visited many Forts in the UK and personally think that this is the most haunted one.
