Globe renews commitments for disabled workers
By Connor Steel
THE GOSPORT & FAREHAM GLOBE is delighted to confirm that they have renewed their continuing “commitment” to the Disability Confident Scheme until at least 2027; which sees the newspaper join with thousands of other companies across the UK in providing suitable opportunities and breaking barriers for everyone with a health condition or disabilty.
The newspaper first joined this Government Scheme in summer 2021 and has been in regular contact with many local jobcentres; where we have offered voluntary placements for aspiring journalists and hard-working residents. And early on Monday afternoon it was confirmed that we have renewed our Level One status and stay as a committed employer.
This means that the Globe is committed to ensuring against discrimation and considering a health condition / disability in applications for voluntary works or placements; as well as any paid opportunities that may be offered. Our team are also committed to making all adverts accessible and accepting applications / providing information in different formats.
Assisting people with health conditions and disabilities have always been a passion for the Globe since it was founded in 2014; particularly due to its contacts and experiences of team members. For example the current Managing Director has a condition called cerebral palsy which affects parts of mobility, co-ordination, speech and hearing on a daily basis.
But he still continues to fulfil a massive part of the Globe’s editorial team and celebrated five years with the company in early 2024; which includes assisting with coverage of two general elections, D-Day commemorations and the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. He further has a ‘full time’ job within Portsmouth and has no plans of stopping any time in the future.
Readers can explore further information about the Disability Confident Scheme by visiting this designated Government website whilst the Globe’s badge can be seen here and an official certficate showing this commitment is downloadable.
