Local volunteers invited to assist GHODs events

By Connor Steel

GOSPORT HERITAGE OPEN DAYS (GHODs) have invited ‘local history buffs’ to volunteer their services and ideas as they outlined further information about the upcoming week of ‘Heritage Open Days (HODs)’ events; which is scheduled to take place from September 6-15 and is set to be themed around ‘European Heritage Routes’ on its 30th anniversary.

The information was shared in a media release with their theme including networks and connections; which will look at people and ideas have joined together. This can include transport routes, communication networks, trade unions, local organisations, and social groups; who are more than welcome to contribute in a popular week of history related events.

Early ideas across this area include walks or talks featuring the Gosport Lines, alongside the land and sea defences in the Borough. The Millennium Bridge has further been discussed amongst other areas with Priddy’s Hard and Hardway, whilst the inventions from Henry Court and the “Pig Iron” was mentioned in this media release on Wednesday morning.

But organisers and volunteers are needed to help tell the stories during the nine designated days with GHODs offering some support to anybody interested. This should be provided by the group’s Events Team who can help with speakers, venues, equipment, promotional materials, free public liability insurance, and it can be accessed by contacting GHODs.

A programme of events should be available later this summer and a full comment from Terry Rhodes can be seen here. More information about GHODs can be viewed via the link and this includes all photographs of previous events / years.
