Warning of traffic delays in Fareham over the summer

DRIVERS using the A27 west of Fareham town centre could be subject to traffic delays from Monday, July 19, until well into September.

The cause will be maintenance and upgrade work to the traffic signals at the junction of A27 The Avenue, Peak Lane and Catisfield Road, and temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

Additionally, for safety purposes, and to reduce any potential delays, the right turn lanes into both Peak Lane and Catisfield Road will be closed with a signed diversion in place via Bishopsfield Road or Highlands Road.

This diversion will also apply in reverse as the exit onto the A27 The Avenue from both roads will be closed for the duration of the scheme.

Access to properties near the junction will be possible with the left turn into Peak Lane and Catisfield Road remaining open, except for a full closure onto Catisfield Road scheduled for August 23 and 24.

Advance warning signs will be in place along the route and local residents and businesses have been written to, alerting them to these works and the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

Apologising for any disruption to motorists and residents, Councillor Russell Oppenheimer, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Highways Operations, advised people, “to plan their journeys carefully in advance if they have to travel in this area”.
