Marina death sparks emergency incident

POLICE have confirmed a man’s body was found at Haslar Marina following a major incident that show many roads shut in Gosport and a huge emergency service presence on Monday morning (December 13).

Emergency services were called to reports of ‘somebody in the water’ at the popular marina; prompting teams from Hampshire Police, South Central Ambulance and the Coastguard response to race to the scene.

The ambulance service announced they sent two paramedics, a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and an ambulance crew; whilst coastguard teams included those from Hillhead, Portsmouth and Gosport Lifeboats.

Haslar Road was shut in both directions between Trinity Green and Clayhall Road, which included the bridge near the town centre. This was closed for approximately two hours before being opened again at 12pm.

It has now been announced that a 64-year old male died after being found in the water at Haslar Marina, with the family informed and an further update likely. The death isn’t being treated as suspicious.

Hampshire Constabulary provided the following statement online: “We were called at 10.09am on Monday morning (December 13) following the discovery of the body of a 64-year-old man in the water at Haslar Marina on Haslar Road in Gosport.

“Officers attended and the death is not being treated as suspicious. The man’s family has been informed”.
