Appeal launched after man dies in Titchfield collision

HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY have announced they have launched an “urgent” appeal for witnesses and information to assist their ongoing investigation following a ‘road traffic incident’ in Titchfield on Wednesday morning (November 1), which sadly left a male in his seventies with ‘fatal injuries’ after he collided with a lorry near to Stewarts Garden Centre.

Emergency Services were called to the scene on Mill Lane at approximately 11:10am after reports of a serious collision between a HGV lorry and pedestrian. Sadly this pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene and his next of kin has since been informed, whilst the road was closed for several hours to allow for the early investigations to take place.

Officers have confirmed that a thirty-year old man from Southampton was arrested and released under investigation on suspicion of causing “death by careless driving”. They are currently working to establish the full circumstances and has asked anybody who has dashboard footage or were driving in the surrounding areas to come forward to help enquiries.

Investigators are asking for anybody with any new information to contact police by calling their non-emergency number 101 and quote the case’s reference number of 44230446638. They can further submit details using the online reporting tool available on the Hampshire Police website, with all official support and further guidance available on the links here.

Alternatively, readers can contact the “independent charity” Crimestoppers 100% anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 for absolutely free; or via their anonymous online forms which can be found through their website: https://orlo.uk/250kR
