Bygone Years: Adventures from Alverstoke

ALVERSTOKE is a parish residential area in Gosport stretching from Haslar to Browndown Battery and is the ‘home’ to over 4,000 residents according to the 2011 Census. It furthermore hosts significance to the military alongside its charm in hosting ‘community’ events; such as the annual Garden Walkabout and Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church.

For the weekly edition of Bygone Years our Globe photographer Peter Maguire has been searching through his popular collections of historic and recent local imagery to showcase this district from 1880 until 1908; including scenes from the traditional village, architecture and range of unique landmarks such as the Crescent (credits to original photographers)
