Collingwood band on song for Woodentots

MEMBERS of the HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band entertained a group of young children from the Royal Navy site’s Woodentots nursery when they played at their carol service recently.

Held in the Warrant Officers’ and Senior Rates’ Mess at the Fareham training base on Newgate Lane, the event was organised by Chief Petty Officer Lynn Harris, Dental Hygienist in Collingwood’s medical centre.

Lynn is the parent of Caden Harris and worked tirelessly alongside other committee members to bring the event together after a Covid lull over recent years.

With a selection of the usual carols played and the children joining in with the singing a great afternoon was had by all those in attendance.

Volunteer Band Secretary Steve Wood said: “It was a fun engagement which the band enjoyed playing and brought along a selection of instruments for the children to play along with.”

The band then went on to play their annual RNA Christmas Charity concert that was held at Holy Rood Church, in Stubbington, later that evening.

Having already played at the establishment’s carol service the day before, the band were also playing carols on Wednesday onboard HMS Duncan and at the Junior Rates’ Christmas Dinner.
