Council unveils new artwork to revamp skate park

FAREHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL have used the ongoing school holidays to unveil vibrant new ‘artwork’ after work was carried out at Locks Heath Skate Park recently; thus marking another big development within their continuing project to provide a range of stimulating activities and spaces for young residents to congregate safely across the entire borough.
The facility was chosen for redevelopment after a rise in anti social behaviour behaviour earlier this year, which caused multiple issues to all residents and indeed the local community of Locks Heath. Damage was reported within the space and was often unsafe for young people who wanted to use this skate park throughout the day for recreational activities.
Councillors worked together with community partners including police, schools, Y Services, Motiv8 and the Fire Service to carry out regular patrols, whilst authorising works across the site to discourage anti-social behaviour. This featured a commissioning of the new artwork design used for the skate ramps, which was created by the local artist Steve Armon.
Initial reaction to this artwork has been positive with residents praising this work for “brightening the look and feel of the park” and it had created “a sense of pride in this facility among local residents and young people. Joanne Burton stated that the council were all “delighted with the outcome and hope it will make residents feel proud of this vital local facility.”
