Organisers reliterate invitation to Community Showcase

By Molly Henson

FAREHAM RESIDENTS have again been invited to attend one of the town’s biggest community events when the Community Showcase returns to the area early next month; the occasion being an opportunity to celebrate the organisations, volunteers and community groups making a difference locally.

The annual event will be taking place in a marquee at Bath Lane Recreation Ground from 10am to 4pm on July 4 (Saturday) and will feature as part of Fareham’s Big Weekend, whilst it has been funded by the council and organised by Community First. It offers a free chance to discover local services, meet community organisations and find volunteering opportunities close to home.

Visitors can also enjoy a full programme of entertainment, with performances from local groups Steppin Up, Con Spirito, Locks Heath Tuneless Choir, Portchester Youth Theatre and Solent Glee, plus a free children’s circus workshop.

Confirmed organisations include Age UK, Bird Aware Solent, Endometriosis South Coast, Fareham School of Gymnastics, Fareport Talking News, Key to Joy, Live Art Local CIC, Solent Sounds Chorus and The Dementia Care Hub.

Tim Houghton, Chief Executive Officer of Community First, said: “Fareham Community Showcase is a brilliant opportunity for people to come together, celebrate what is happening in their community and discover how they can get involved. Whether you want to find local support, try something new, meet the organisations working in your area or explore volunteering, there will be something for everyone. We would love to see as many people as possible join us!”

Fareham Community Showcase forms part of a wider programme of activities and events in and around Fareham town centre on July 4 and 5, including a dog show, funfair rides, artisan and farmers’ market, graffiti workshop and pop-up museum.

A full programme of events for the weekend is posted on Community First and Fareham Borough Council websites; which also offer more information about the services being offered in the area.
