Picture Special: Veteran snaps Gosport ‘Falklands 40’

THOUSANDS of Gosport residents joined together with veterans to mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War which ran for three months between April and June 1982, with a ceremony and military parade held in the Town Centre on Sunday morning to pay tribute to the 258 British personnel who died.

A service was held within the Falklands Garden featuring speeches and tributes, before a convoy of veterans marched down the High Street towards the Town Hall; watchers-on stopping to applaud and cheer the parade as they moved towards their final destination of Walpole Park for a special access-only event.

Navy veteran Peter Maguire attended the ceremony on behalf of the Globe, standing near the Gosport Ferry end of the high street to capture the parade as it moved past under overcast but dry skies.
